With fruit trees you have to wait. There are signs and things to do to encourage growth but overall they grow at their own speed under God’s conditions. God wants our lives to grow and bear fruit. He wants us to stay connected to Him so that we can bear fruit. I think summer is a great time to spend a little extra time with God. Maybe it is on a walk that you can focus your mind on Him. Maybe as you swim laps you can praise Him. The sheer difference that summer brings signals that there are opportunities for fruit to come. Do you see any in your life?
Summer fruits last a short time. There is nothing like a fresh picked peach still warm from the sun. But peaches don’t last long. Our trees don’t produce that much but still I get the sense that I must reach out and eat them now or they will rot and be gone. While God is always available to us, He is doing a work in your life right now that is unique. Like the fruit on the tree which you must pick or lose, God can provide for you in just this time if you reach out to Him. This may be the season where you build some muscles for God or gain some unique vitamins from Him if you reach out and take Him in. Today’s bounty with God will pass as the sun sets. Don’t miss your opportunity with Him today. What is He providing uniquely for you in this season?
We have a Bluejay that loves to taste our fruit. He would be welcome to a piece but instead he likes to sample many and never finishes one! He seems double minded. I think of him as evil when he comes into my trees. There is evil in our world and evil seeks to destroy all of the crop. God sees the evil but the evil does not have the final word. God provides more than the evil can devour. There is fruit that the Bluejay does not get and I can even relish a piece once I cut his hole out. Summer is a time to see the good. We may have to look for it but it is there. God wants us to find His good and sing praises to Him. Summer is a great time to praise the creator and provider and thus silence the evil around. God desires that we are single minded and that single mindedness is focused on Him. How do you see God in this season of your life?
So the question that comes up for me, and maybe for you, is Is my summer bearing fruit for Him? “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8 He says Enjoy!
