One thing we’ve done is identify five “connections” we believe all our Middle School students need for this to happen:
- A connection to God’s Word
- A connection to each other
- A connection to a mentor
- A connection to the larger church body
- And ideally, a connection to empowered parents
We connect our youth to God’s word through helping them memorize the books of the Bible, having them open Bibles at Sunday Sem, and teaching and discussing the Bible.
We connect our youth to each other through fun games, retreats, and weekly small groups.
We connect our youth to a mentor through their relationship with a counselor, whose primary role is to build relationships with our youth and give Godly counsel when the opportunity arises.
We connect our youth to the larger church body through Worship Together Sundays, having our youth play key roles in worship services, and inviting pastors to speak at youth group.
We connect our youth to empowered parents through strong communication with parents, helping them follow-up with their youth on what they are learning in Middle School group, family events, and “Bring Your Dad” to youth group night.
Finally, we pray! We know that God is at work and loves to hear our requests. Will you pray with our counselors and me this week for our youth? Thank you!
