As a little boy, I hardly ever heard anyone talk about or explain God’s personal love for me. It wasn’t until I was 21 that God used somebody to bring the Good News of God’s love to me. God wants us to know and experience His indescribable love, His immeasurable love, and His infinite love for you and me. God’s love is so powerful, like an ocean’s wave. In what ways has God’s love impacted you?
God’s love captured my heart – One day, in early December 1979, while I was at Khao-I-Dang, a refugee camp in Thailand, I was swinging in my hammock, back and forth, and whistling. Suddenly, a group of young children came to me. The oldest in the group was Lekun (who is now my wife). They burst into singing an inspirational song that I had never heard before. It was the hymn titled, “At Calvary” by William Reed Newell (1868-1956) and Daniel B. Towner (1850-1919).
v1: Years I spent in vanity and pride, caring not my Lord was crucified; knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary. // v2: By God's Word at last my sin I learned. Then I trembled at the law I'd spurned; till my guilty soul imploring turned to Calvary. // v3: Now I've given to Jesus everything. Now I gladly own Him as my King. Now my raptured soul can only sing of Calvary.// v4: Oh, the love that drew salvation's plan! Oh! The grace that brought it down to man! Oh! The mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary! // Chorus: Mercy there was great and grace was free; Pardon there was multiplied to me. There my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary.
God’s love changed my heart – As I listened to that hymn; I was moved, convinced, and convicted by God’s love to be changed by God. Because of the Holy Spirit working in me, He showed me all of the wonderful things God that has done for you and me through His beloved Son Jesus. Especially on the cross at Calvary, He proved His true love for you and me. God showed me that I am lost without Christ. I did not know that Christ died for me to prove His love for me. I am a wretched man. I did not know that God loves me and has a wonderful plan for me. When the song ended, I jumped from the hammock, knelt down on my knees and gave my heart to Jesus. From that moment on I was forever changed by God’s love. When Jesus came into my heart, God made me a new person and assured me that I am His child. God gave me a new heart, a new kind of love, a new desire to live for Him and to love Him and His people. God gave me a new purpose for living and a new perspective about life. I am forever grateful to God for His gift of love. This gift also extends to you and to everyone who needs God’s love. This amazing love is available to you and to everyone. Thank you God that the power of your love forever changes lives.
God’s love constrains my heart – God’s unfailing love not only captured and changed my heart, but it also constrains my heart to serve Him, to share His love with others, and to shine His light to others for His mighty and matchless name. I can honestly and humbly say that I don’t understand why God loves me. I could not explain it until I received the Lord Jesus in my heart as my Lord and Savior. And then I realized that His Holy Spirit who inspired His Scriptures tells me that God loves me and He loves me just the way I am. Thank you God that the power of your love constrains me to do your will and your work according to your ways. By God’s amazing and abundant grace, He has continually taught me throughout the past 16+ years how to be a loving and caring father to Sharon, my dear and beautiful daughter with disabilities. I am forever grateful to God for that privilege. My life continues to be shaped by God’s love from day to day as I live one day at a time. This is my prayer for all of us followers of the Lord Jesus: that we will keep ourselves in God’s love as we wait for His return with his mercy to give us life forever. - Jude 1:21 (NCV). If you have never known or experienced God’s love, my challenge to you is this: Let God love you and transform your life. Give your heart to the Lord Jesus and be saved today!
